I’ve been researching this project for quite some time. It’s the perfect load for my C500 prime mover. I chose the Bruder #02424…it scales real close to a D11 @ 1/25, though quite a few modifications still have to be made. The first two pictures are what I’m using as a reference for dimensions. First order of business is disassembly and cab modifications. Cab height and width will decreased by10 scale inches:

Here’s the cab re-assembled: The cab length still needs to be shortened. The radiator shroud is removed and .060" styrene extensions are added. The extension is 18 scale inches at the top.

That's big! It's going to take a serious trailer to haul it. Nice conversion.

01/25/15 update: Here’s the cab after being shortened by 10 scale inches: 20 scale inches have been removed from the back: Still a lot to do, here’s a quick mockup:

That sure is big! It's looking great. Are you planning on weathering it, or factory fresh?

Dennis, It is really beginning to take shape now! I did not realize how far off the Bruder toy was from the D-11. But then there is always issues with the Cat company about copying their products.

Thank guys. If you look at Bruder # 02453 it appears to look closer to a D11 than the one I purchased which is the #02424. The problem with the 02453 is that it scales out way too big for 1/25.

I completed shaping and drilling each hood side panel. Panel was constructed from .060" styrene. My first step was to get a detailed layout of each panel: My next step was to transfer that onto the metal I used as a template: I drilled out the side panels…538 holes in each. It’s a good thing I have a foot switch for my drill press. Here’s a mockup of each side: Now panels lines have to be scribed and slam locks installed.

Ok so one of the Bruder dozers is way too large. What about a fictitious build of a D-12, of of a Komatsu monster carry dozer? Dennis, Nice work on drilling the holes. All of them!!!! Be Well Gator

I completed modifying one set of tracks from triple to single grouser. The first order of business was to remove the existing grouser bars. This was accomplished with the help of a belt sander: After removing as much stock as possible with the sander, I finished with 80 grit by hand. This picture shows the bars removed: In this picture on the left is a piece of .015” styrene cut to 5/16” X 1-9/16”. this was glued to the top of each shoe to cover any imperfections that sanding did not remove. On the right is what was used for the single grouser bar. It’s .060” X .100” styrene (Evergreen # 155): Here’s the completed track: There’s a lot left to accomplish on this build. I’m waiting on parts to modify the drive sprockets. Once they arrive and are installed, the front and rear idlers will be scratch built along with the track rollers. So for now, panel lines have to be scribed for the hood side panels and modifications to the blade are needed.
